Abstract
This Protocol has been concluded by the Parties in the framework of the Alpine Convention and hence in the context of the environmental protection of the Alpine region. These provisions deal with environmental issues in connection with tourism. The Protocol consists of five Chapters. Chapter I defines the objectives to be attained and outlines the importance of international cooperation in this sector, particularly in respect of border areas. The overall aim pursued is to contribute to sustainable development in the Alpine territory through an environmentally friendly tourism policy. Chapter II defines specific measures to be implemented by the Parties to achieve the above-mentioned objectives. Chapter III regards research, training and information intiatives to be encouraged and undertaken by the Parties.
