Waterways Act (WaStG).

The present Federal Act lays down provisions relating to the mission and organization of the Federal Waterways Administration on waterways as laid down in article 15 of the Navigation Act of 30 June 1997. Article 2 lists the particular tasks of this Administration, such as regulation, maintenance and expansion of water bodies; monitoring of the state of waters and participation in measures against water pollution; administration of public water resources and land related to waterways. Article 3 concerns principles relating to water maintenance. Part 2 lays down provisions relating to the establishment of the Danube Austrian Waterways Company with limited liability. The text consists of 33 articles divided into 3 Parts as follows: General provisions (1); Organization of the Federal Waterways Administration (2); Transitional and final provisions (3). The 2025 amendments strengthened financial discipline, accountability and administrative efficiency, without changing the fundamental mandate of federal waterway management.
