Abstract
This Law regulates inland navigation in Austria by establishing a legal framework governing navigation safety, shipping operations, ports and landing places, inland waterway police, ship registration and inspection, professional inland shipping, vessel certification, crew qualifications, and related administrative procedures. It sets out rules on the use and protection of inland waterways, traffic regulation, emergency situations and accidents, environmental protection measures, and the transport of dangerous goods, while defining the powers and responsibilities of competent authorities. The Law also regulates the construction and operation of inland navigation infrastructure, concession requirements for commercial navigation, passenger transport rights, and inspection and enforcement mechanisms, and transposes relevant European Union legislation on inland waterways, safety, professional qualifications, and transport infrastructure development.
