Abstract
This Act, consisting of 144 sections divided into eleven Parts and completed by two Schedules, deals with the handling and sale of food, objectives of the Act include: (a) to ensure food for sale is both safe and suitable for human consumption, (b) to prevent misleading conduct in connection with the sale of food, (c) to provide for the application in this State of the Food Standards Code. The Act is divided into the following parts: Preliminary (1); Offences relating to food (2); Emergency powers (3); Inspection and seizure powers (4); Improvement notices and prohibition orders for premises or equipment (5); Taking and analysis of samples (6); Auditing (7); Regulation of food business (8); Administration (9); Procedural and evidentiary provisions (10); Miscellaneous (11).
