Abstract
The Plan, consisting of 66 sections divided into ten Parts and completed by five Schedules, applies to all of the land within the area of Kiama. It is divided into ten Parts: Preliminary (1); Zonings and Land Uses (2); Rural (3); Residential (4); Business (5); Industrial (6); Special Uses (7); Environmental Protection (8); Heritage (9); General (10).
Aims and objectives of the Plan concern, inter alia, the following matters: (a) management, development and conservation of the natural and built resources within the area; (b) definition of the future urban boundaries; (c) consolidation of existing urban areas particularly around existing business and transport centres and where environmental (including social) parameters are suitable; (d) protection of prime crop and pasture land outside defined urban boundaries; (e) identification and conservation of the items of environmental heritage of a local, regional, State and national significance, (f) identification of land required for public purposes and classification of public land for general community or operational use; (g) promotion of a more efficient use of water and energy; (h) preservation of the water quality and of the estuaries and wetlands systems; (o) sustainability of the natural ecosystems; (p) control of the development on flood liable land, and of the fragmentation of non-urban land other than for agricultural purposes. The Plan is completed by four Schedules: Residential Design Guidelines (1); Heritage Items (2); Operational Land (3); Development for Certain Additional Purposes (4).

Last amendments up to: State Environmental Planning Policy Amendment (Miscellaneous) 2022.This Plan repeals the Kiama Local Environmental Plan No. 5 and such other local environmental plans and deemed environmental planning instruments as, immediately before the appointed day, applied to the land to which this plan applies (but to the extent only to which those plans and instruments so applied to the land to which this plan applies), and repeals clauses 3(2), 4(c) and 7 of Illawarra Regional Environmental Plan No. 2 "Jamberoo Valley".
