Abstract
These Regulations clarify matters related to classification of substances as poison (Part 2), authorization to supply and use of strictly controlled substances (Part 3), requirements for prescription, form of prescription and directions from prescriber depending on the classification given to the substance as a poison (Part 4). Part 5 is dedicated to supplying medicine that is Schedule 4 or 8 poison; and includes a section for supplying medicine that is Schedule 4 poison for emergency veterinary use (Schedule 4 concerns Prescription only medicines, or Prescription Animal Remedy Substances, the use or supply of which should be by or on the order of persons permitted under the Act to prescribe and should be available from a pharmacist on prescription).
Part 6 also lays down the discipline for a structured administration and supply arrangement (SASA); the CEO may issue a SASA that applies throughout the State specifing the class of health professional to which it applies; a description of each medicine to which it applies; and the circumstances in which the medicine may be administered or supplied by a health professional. Part 7 concerns authorization of health professionals and dedicates a section to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health professionals and veterinary professionals. Part 8 regulates licences and permits. Part 9 seta the requirements relating to manufacture, supply, handling, storage, transport and disposal of poisons. Part 11 concerns prescription and supply of medicine that is Schedule 8 poison (Controlled Drug: Substances which should be available for use but require restriction of manufacture, supply, distribution, possession and use to reduce abuse, misuse and physical or psychological dependence).
