Abstract
This Act concerns the Murray-Darling Basin Agreement. The purpose of the Agreement is to promote and coordinate effective planning and management for the equitable efficient and sustainable use of the water, land and other environmental resources of the Murray-Darling Basin. The text of the Act consists of 21 sections which are divided into 4 Parts, i.e.: Preliminary (1); The Agreement and the Commissioners (2); The Commission and its operations (3); General (4). For the purpose of subclause 20(2) Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners are to be appointed by the Governor-General (sect. 6). Section 13 provides for the jurisdiction of State courts with respect to performance of duties or the exercise of powers by the Murray-Darling Basin Commission or a Commonwealth member of the Commission. Other sections provide, inter alia, for regulation making powers of the Governor-General and administrative procedures in relation with work of the Commission.
