Murray-Darling Basin Agreement.

The purpose of this Agreement is to promote and coordinate effective planning and management for the equitable efficient and sustainable use of the water, land and other environmental resources of the Murray-Darling Basin (sect. 1). The Agreement provides for the continuation of the Ministerial Council and the Murray-Darling Basin Commission, constituted under a previous between the same parties, and further regulates their operation. It contains provisions on investigations studies and monitoring; construction and maintenance of works and related costs and on the allocation of water resources among the parties and related matters.
The Agreement also provides for its application to the state of Queensland.
