Abstract
This Act makes provision for various matters relating to sea navigation and the protection of the sea. Despite section 2, the Minister may declare in writing that this Act applies to a fishing fleet support vessel proceeding on a voyage that is not an overseas voyage (sect. 8A). Part IV is entitled "ships and shipping" and contains provisions relative to a variety of matters regarding navigation such as ships carrying noxious liquid substances in bulk and reports of movements of ships and sewage from ships, and to the construction of sea-going vessels such as the installation of radio equipment. Part X makes provision with respect to legal proceedings including such matters as jurisdiction, place where deemed to have been committed, offences, and prosecution and penalties. Part XA deals with tonnage and measurement of ships. Part XI contains miscellaneous provisions including provisions relative to search of vessels detention of ships.
