Petroleum and Geothermal Energy Resources Act 1967.

This Act provides for a system of exploration permits, retention leases and mining leases, prohibits the exploration and exploitation without permits and leases and provides for the reservation of titles in geothermal resources to the Crown.
The Act sets out procedures and requirements for obtaining geothermal exploration permits and drilling reservations. As provided for in the Act, the permittee or holder of drilling reservation shall then apply for retention leases and for petroleum production licences to carry on operations for the recovery of petroleum.
The Act further provides for: the registration of titles and special prospecting authorities; appointment of inspectors and their powers; fees and royalties; occupational safety and health; etc.
