Water Act 1912.

This comprehensive enactment makes provisions, inter alia, for water rights, individual and group licences for the use of water, supply of water and joint water supply schemes, waterworks, certain aspects of administration of management and conservation of water resources, drainage and irrigation, licences for the boring of artesian wells, and flood control.
The 186 sections of this Act are divided into 8 Parts: Preliminary (I); Water rights and works (II); Water and drainage (III); Drainage promotion (IV); Artesian wells (V); Domestic and stock water supply districts and domestic and stock water supply and irrigation districts; Flood control districts and flood control and irrigation districts (VII); Control of certain works on river banks and food plains (VIII); Licensing of water management authorities (IX).
Each Part has its own interpretation section. Part III provides, inter alia, for the construction of waterworks for various purposes in the Murray Basin and the construction of trusts for purposes of such works. Part VI and VII provide, inter alia, for the constitution of "Districts" and "Provisional Districts" for purposes of administration of matters relating to water supply, irrigation and flood control.
