Abstract
This Act, consisting of 117 sections divided into nine Parts and completed by one Schedule, aims to protect the long-term interests of customers and to provide for the safe, environmentally responsible, efficient and sustainable provision of reliable and secure water services and sewerage services to the Tasmanian community.
The Act sets out powers and duties of the Minister and establishes the office of the Regulator which shall administer the licensing system established under this Act; establish and administer the customer service code; regulate prices, terms and conditions for regulated services; make price determinations; monitor the performance of the water and sewerage industry; etc.
The Act further provides for: appointment and powers of water and sewerage officers; building and plumbing works certificates; installation, reading and testing of meters; offences; etc.

An Act to provide for the establishment of an economic regulatory framework for the water and sewerage industry, including the establishment of a licensing regime and providing for the regulation of prices, customer service standards and performance monitoring of that industry and for related matters.
Entry into force notes
This Act enters into force on 9 July 2008.
