Abstract
This Plan, consisting of 70 sections divided into seven Parts and six Schedules is done under the Water Act 2000. The purposes of this plan are: a) to define the availability of water in the plan area; b) to provide a framework for sustainably managing water and the taking of water in the plan area; c) to identify priorities and mechanisms for dealing with future water requirements; and d) to provide a framework for reversing, if practicable, the degradation of groundwater-dependent ecosystems. This Water Plan will achieve the policy objectives by: defining the availability of water in the plan area; providing a framework for sustainably managing water and the taking of water; identifying priorities and mechanisms for dealing with future water requirements; and providing a framework for reversing, where practicable, degradation in natural ecosystems.
