Abstract
This Regulation, consisting of 132 sections divided into nine Parts, implements the Water Act 2000. Part 2 deals with allocation and sustainable management of water resources and contains provisions on water rights, on planning and on implementation of plans, on water licences and on water bore driller licences. Part 4 concerns water authorities, while Part 5 covers investigations, enforcement and offences. Part 6 contains miscellaneous provisions, among others, on water management areas, drainage rates and fees. Part 7 implements a system for the compulsory use of water meters for taking or interfering with water in the State. Part 8 outlines a range of measures to be carried out by service providers to ensure the security of essential water supplies for the SEQ region. The Regulation is completed by 17 Schedules that specify, among others, catchment areas (Schedule 5), water authorities (Schedule 6), water sharing rules (Schedule 10), water charges (Schedule 14), royalties (Schedule 15) and fees (Schedule 16).
