Abstract
This Decree aims at ensuring the efficient use and conservation of water resources and taking measures for maximum production to meet the energy demand. The Ministry of Emergency Situations, the State Agency on Alternative and Renewable Energy Sources and the Azerbaijan Amelioration and Water Management Open Joint Stock Company shall be charged with developing projects on use of water bodies for hydro-energy needs and planning the construction of hydropower station. This Decree states that hydropower stations shall comply with the rules on use of water bodies, filling and maintenance of water reservoirs and shall ensure free passage of vessels and spawning migrations. Furthermore, this Decree underlines that waste water discharge to water bodies is prohibited. Environmental issues regarding protection of land, soil, flora and fauna, forest and groundwater during the use of water bodies for hydroelectricity generation are regulated by the relevant legislation.
