Strategic Roadmap for the development of tourism industry in Azerbaijan.

The Strategic Road Map for the national economy that has been approved by the Presidential Decree No. 1138, will be used as a guidance during the preparation of strategic plans, state programs, development concepts, strategies, action plans for the development of tourism industry. The strategic goals of this guidance are: (I) increasing tourism potential of Baku city to attract more foreign tourists, (II) formation of a favourable environment for the development of the tourism sector in the country, (III) development of regional tourism types for local and regional tourists, including ecotourism and rural tourism, and (IV) creation of a national tourism quality system in order to increase the satisfaction of tourists. The organization of the activities of the Tourism Board will be strengthened. Tourism and recreation zones will be created in compliance with the legal framework for the protection of the environment, and it will be ensured that the local population will benefit from tourism activities in national parks. Educational programs will be carried out and the standardization and certification system will be improved in the field of tourism. Rural tourism will be developed which will improve the infrastructure in rural areas, generate rural employment, and improve the level of well-being and socio-economic status in rural areas.
