Regulation on official controls carried out in order to verify compliance with the provisions of the regulations on food and feed, as well as the regulations on the health and welfare of animals.

This Regulation determines several general rules and principles for the implementation of official controls, here described as any form of control which is carried out by the competent authorities for the purpose of verification of compliance with the regulations on food and feed for animals and rules on the health and welfare of animals.
The major purpose of these rules is aimed at: preventing, eliminating and/or reducing the level of risk to people and animals (health and welfare of animals intended for food production, in terms of necessary declarations); ensuring the respect for good trade relationships in food and feed business and protection of consumer interests, including the declaration of food and feed, as well as other types of information for consumers.
These provisions are not related to the organization of the common agricultural market products, covered by different rules.
