Abstract
The Swine Breeding Program in the Republika Srpska is the basic planning document in pig breeding, which provides a framework for the selection, reproduction and improvement of the pig population, with clearly defined goals and activities. The breeding program is a set of zootechnical, selection and other methods and procedures, as well as support measures, which aims to improve pig production in the Republika Srpska. Planned pig breeding can achieve higher productivity, better meat quality, better animal health and resistance to diseases, more efficient use of production resources, as well as higher profitability of production. The importance of pig farming is multifaceted as it contributes to overall agricultural production, the food industry and rural development, all of which together have a positive impact on GDP in the agricultural sector. Pig farming is one of the key branches of livestock farming on which the nutrition of the population in the Republika Srpska is based.
