Abstract
The Bangladesh Economic Zones Act, 2010 provides for establishment of economic zones and special economic zones to encourage rapid economic development in the country. The Act allows for acquisition of land, appointment of developers, division of economic zones into various areas, financial and other benefits to the industrial units within the economic zones. It also establishes the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority to perform the duties and functions laid down in the Act. There shall also be a Governing Board to formulate policy, monitor the activities, approve proposals and perform other such functions mentioned in the Act. The Act requires the Authority, economic zone developers, industrial units, and all other parties to comply with international commitments recognized by the Government of Bangladesh including compliance to all the existing laws on environment and environmental protection.

An act to make provisions for the establishment of economic zones in all potential areas including backward and underdeveloped regions and development, operation, management and control thereof including the matters ancillary thereto with a view to encouraging rapid economic development through increase and diversification of industry, employment, production and export.
