Abstract
This Act provides for protection of diseases caused by iodine deficiencies. A salt committee is formed to fulfil the objectives of the Act. The Act prohibits import of any salt except iodised salt into Sri Lanka. Further, no person shall manufacture, store, distribute or display any edible salt other than iodized edible salt. The Act makes provisions in respect of salt laboratories, packaging and labelling of salt, registration for production of salt, inspection and penalties for offences committed under the Ac.
