Sand and Soil Management Act, 2010 (Act No. 62 of 2010).

This Act provides for grant of lease for mining of sand and soil and for suppression of illegal mining activities. Section 4 prohibits sand and soil extraction from any environmentally sensitive area, bank of rivers damaged by dredging, area near reservoir or embankment etc., or in cases where there is a possibility of damage to environment. Section 5 restricts extraction by pumping or dredging. Section 6 makes the Ministry of Land to be the sole authority for grant of lease or for marketing sand or soil lifted by government authority. Section 10 lays down the procedure for grant of balumhal lease. Section 15 provides for offences and penalties.
