Abstract
This Act consists of 9 sections: Short title (sect. 1); Definitions (sect. 2); Territorial Waters (sect. 3); Contiguous Zone (sect. 4); Economic Zone (sect. 5); Conservation Zone (sect. 6); Continental Shelf (sect. 7); Control of pollution (sect. 8); Power to make rules (sect. 9).
The limits of the territorial waters shall be declared by the Government by Notification in the Official Gazette. Where a single island, rock or a composite group thereof constituting a part of the territory of Bangladesh is situated seawards from the main coast or baseline, territorial waters shall extend to the limits declared by Notification under sub-section [1] measured from the low-water line along the coast of such island, rock or composite group (sect. 3). The Contiguous Zone extends six nautical miles measured from the outer limits of territorial waters (sect. 4). Also the outer limits of the EEZ shall be established by a Notification made by the Government (sect. 5). Conservation araes may be established by the Government in marine areas outside of the territorial waters and conservation measures which shall apply to an area or areas may be prescribed by Notification (sect. 6). Provisions of sections 5 and 7 deal with fishing by citizens of Bangladesh in EEZ or on the Continental Shelf.
