Abstract
This Regulation sets the animal health requirements to be applied when placing on the market, importing and transiting aquatic animals and their products; precautionary measures with regard to the control of the aquatic animal diseases undertaken by the National Veterinary Office, as well as measures to be taken by persons responsible for aquaculture production business and any other industry related to this business.
The implementation of these rules is here entrusted to the Director General of the National Veterinary Service.
This text further determines the procedure for approval of aquaculture production business and processing enterprises; official control related rules; traceability/data keeping and several registration issues; good hygiene practice indications; rules related to the animal health surveillance programme and other types of monitoring; set of minimum control measures to be applied in case of confirmation of exotic and other diseases in farmed and wild aquatic animals; and vaccination issues (see Section V, article 60).

This Regulation introduces the provisions and aims of the Council Directive 2006/88/EC of 24 October 2006 on health requirements for aquaculture animals and their products and for the prevention and control of certain aquatic animal diseases; and Directive 2008/53/EC of 30 April 2008 amending the Annex IV to the Directive 2006/88/EC (regarding the carp spring viremia, that is listed and officially classified as a notifiable disease under the World Organization for Animal Health or OIE).
