Abstract
The Act sets out requirements for food traders and importers in order to ensure the safety and the quality of food imported and distributed in Brunei.
The Act empowers his Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan to appoint food analysts and food officers. Powers of food officers include: enter and inspect any premises where food is prepared, reserved, packaged, stored, sold, etc.; take samples of any food for analysis by a food analyst; and examine and seize any books, documents or records food on any premises where food is handled.
The Act further provides for: powers of the Director General of Health Services; importation requirements; food analyst’s certificate; offences and penalties; regulation making powers of the Minister of Health; etc.
