Decree No. 12.725 establishing structure and competence of the State Institute of Environment (IMASUL).

This Decree, consisting of 7 Chapters and 1 Annex, approves structure and competence of the State Institute of Environment (IMASUL). It establishes competencies and duties of the above mentioned State institution, under the SEMAC entitled to perform the following activities: proposing, coordinating and executing the environmental policy within the territory of the State; enforcing Federal legislation regarding this activity; planning, coordinating, supervision and controlling any activity related to environment aiming at the harmonisation of the socio-economic development with the environmental and ecological preservation; promoting and implementing research and technical assessment and monitoring on the quality of natural resources; issuing environmental licences and carry out controls on activities which is a potential or effective polluting activity; support any action related to the conservation and rehabilitation of areas endangered of degradation; controlling any natural resources exploitation; carry out inspection and apply penalties for illegal activity; implement the State policy on water and proposing quality standard patterns, and many other activities related to the control and implementation of environmental sector.
