Decree No. 12.886 expanding the Pantanal Mato-grossense National Park, located in the municipality of Poconé, Mato Grosso State.

This Decree expands the Pantanal Mato-grossense National Park, located in the Municipality of Poconé, State of Mato Grosso, created by Decree No. 86.392 of 24 September 1981, by 47,260 hectares, so that it will now comprise a total area of approximately 183,095 hectares. The objectives of the expansion of the National Park are: I - to protect natural environments of high ecological and scenic relevance, such as forest, savannah and grassland formations, fundamental for maintaining the biodiversity of the Pantanal Mato-grossense; II - to ensure the conservation of endangered species of aquatic and terrestrial fauna and promote the protection of their natural habitats; III - to strengthen the protection of lagoons, streams and rivers essential for the local fish fauna and migratory species; IV - guarantee connectivity between ecosystems and the integrity of ecological corridors, ensuring gene flow and the continuous provision of ecosystem services; V - maintain and protect critical areas for fish reproduction, feeding, and nursery, in order to contribute to the natural repopulation and sustainability of fish stocks in the region; VI - encourage environmental education, scientific research, and continuous monitoring as sustainable activities compatible with the objectives of the National Park; and VII - expand and diversify ecotourism and recreation, with new areas designated for visitation in order to promote knowledge and appreciation of the natural and cultural heritage of the National Park.
