Decree No. 49.160 on the Management Committee for Productive Environmental Zoning.

This Decree regulates the Management Committee for Environmental and Productive Zoning (CGZAP) in the State of Minas Gerais. Its main objective is to establish the organization, functions, and operational rules of the committee responsible for overseeing the Environmental and Productive Zoning (ZAP) instrument. ZAP is defined as a territorial planning and management tool that maps and assesses river sub-basins by compiling information on land use, environmental characteristics, and productive potential to evaluate the suitability of agricultural, livestock, and forestry activities, with a view to promoting sustainable development. The decree strengthens governance mechanisms for territorial and environmental planning by defining the committee’s responsibilities, including approving methodologies, reviewing zoning studies, and disseminating approved zoning information. The decree also establishes the composition of the committee, bringing together representatives from environmental, agricultural, forestry, water management, rural extension, agricultural research, and economic development institutions. It provides procedures for meetings, decision-making, technical support, and publication of zoning results. In addition, the decree amends previous regulations to clarify the role of ZAP as an instrument for territorial planning and for supporting studies related to public-interest projects, particularly irrigated agriculture in river sub-basins. The overall purpose is to improve environmental governance, sustainable land-use planning, watershed management, and the compatibility of productive activities with environmental conditions.
