Decree No. 6.882 of 19 June 2009 setting the National Programme on Sustainable Development of Rural Households (PRONAF).

This Decree is composed of 9 articles. It adopts the National Programme on Sustainable Development of Rural Households (PRONAF). In particular, it defines its goals and competences with the view to improve agriculture production and to ensure a sustainable development of rural areas. Special attention is paid to the regulation of practices and standards aimed at a better use of natural resources, especially water and land. For the purposes of this Decree, the following instruments and policies will be used: information, guidance and training of farmers and agrarian reform settlers for the implementation of environmental legislation; expansion of knowledge and skills of beneficiaries of the Sustainable PRONAF, by offering new technological and management standards for the conduct of activities and projects financed by PRONAF; management and technological training of family farmers and agrarian reform settlers who wish to make the transition to agroecological production systems and organic agriculture; facilitation and supervision for access of farmers to policy and funding instruments and protection of the production; and raising and providing information on the activities in family production units, enabling medium and long term planning by federal government agencies, State and Local research and extension institutions, financial agents, farmers' organizations and other entities focused in rural development.
