Abstract
This Decree regulates Act No. 8.361 on pollution control. It consists of XII Chapters establishing environmental policy to be applied within the State of Pernambuco and controls to be carried out in order to avoid environmental pollution. It lays down the definition of "polluting substance" as well as the requirements to be satisfied for obtaining a licence, issued by 'CPRH' ("Companhia Pernambucana de Controle da Poluição Ambiental e de Administração dos Recursos Hídricos") for performing potentially polluting activities. Chapter IV concerns potentially polluting industries' requirements. Chapter V establishes a classification of waters and lists maximum residue limit of chemical substances to be content in waters. Chapter VI concerns atmospherical polluting substances. Chapter VII specifies soil pollution prohibition and Chapters VIII-X prescribe sanctions to be paid by offenders.
