Abstract
This Law establishes the Maranhão Free from Hunger Programme, designed to provide food support through the provision of a card linked to the programme with monthly credit deposits to families benefiting from the Bolsa Família Programme who, even after receiving this benefit, do not exceed a monthly per capita family income of R$ 218.00. The Programme aims to reduce poverty at the state level, guarantee a minimum standard of living, promote food security, provide access to essential services, offer training and means of employability, socio-productive inclusion and financial autonomy. The reference value for characterising the situation of poverty referred to in this Law is the same as that defined in item II of the caput of Article 5 of Federal Law No. 14.601 of 19 June 2023. The Programme is a permanent public policy aimed at the economic development of the State of Maranhão, which also seeks to promote the development and well-being of children aged 0 to 6 years.
