Abstract
This Law establishes the Young Environmental Agent Programme (AJA), aimed at promoting the inclusion and social participation of young people in environmental education initiatives. The AJA Programme will be implemented jointly by the Department of the Environment (SEMA), the Department of Education (SEC) and the Department of Institutional Relations (SERIN). The objectives of the AJA Programme are: promote understanding of local socio-environmental realities and the potential for individual and collective action; encourage young people’s participation in socio-environmental projects within their communities and educational institutions, with a view to strengthening sustainable educational spaces; encourage young people’s participation in environmental and educational bodies to strengthen participation and social control; conduct training programmes for young people to develop social values and competencies aimed at promoting sustainable societies; promote discussions on socio-environmental issues and the strengthening of Environmental Education in school curricula and within communities; provide social and professional training for young people through socio-environmental initiatives; encourage bilingual education for young people in order to enhance their active role in promoting sustainability and environmental justice through the development of socio-environmental projects in collaboration with international partners, thereby increasing employability and income-generating opportunities.
