Law No. 18.104 establishing the protection of native vegetation and the new Forestry Policy of the State of Goiás.

This Law establishes rules on the protection of vegetation, provides for Permanent Preservation areas and Legal Reserve areas, defines rules on forestry exploitation, creates the Rural Environmental Registry of the State of Goiás (CAR GOIÁS) and provides incentive programmes for achieving its objectives. All forms of native vegetation existing in the territory of the State of Goiás constitute assets of collective interest, subject to property rights. Illegal exploitation of vegetation is subject to administrative, civil and criminal sanctions provided for art. 14 of Federal Law No. 6.938 of 31 August 1981. Environmental obligations are transmitted to the successor in the case of transfer of ownership or possession of the rural property. The Rural Environmental Registry CAR GOIÁS is an electronic public registry at state level, mandatory for all rural properties, with the purpose of integrating their environmental information, composing a database for monitoring, environmental planning, economic, declaratory registration of legal reserves, permanent preservation areas and combating illegal deforestation.
