Law No. 3.250 providing for the creation of the Integrated System for Surveillance, Preservation and Conservation of Springs of the Federal District (SIV-ÁGUA).

This Law, provides for the creation of the Integrated System for Surveillance, Preservation and Conservation of Spring Waters of the Federal District (SIV-ÁGUA). It aims at developing integrated operational actions for the planning, protection, conservation, recovery and monitoring of the State water resources, in accordance with the guidelines defined by the National Water Resources Policy, referred to in Federal Law No. 9.433 of 8 January 1997, by the Environmental Policy of the Federal District established by Law No. 41 of 13 September 1989 and by the Water Resources Policy of the Federal District, established by Law No. 2.725 of 13 June 2001. The SIV-ÁGUA has the following fundamental principles: avoid damaging actions to the springs; plan actions based on surveys, diagnoses and studies to protect water sources; continuous and systematic monitoring of water sources with a view to avoid degradation and ensure the recovery of permanent preservation areas; educational actions, aiming at raise awareness on the preservation and recovery of springs; search for alternatives, together with society to ensure the protection of the areas surrounding the water springs; governmental integration for defining monitoring activities and conserving water sources; integration with the bordering states of the Federal District, aiming at the protection and preservation of the hydrographic basins; etc.
