Law No. 6.381 establishing the State Water Resources Policy, and the Water Resources Management System.

This Law, consisting of 90 articles divided into five Titles, establishes the State Water Resources Policy and the Water Resources Management System. The objectives of the State Water Resources Policy are: to ensure the availability of water resources to current and future generations, in accordance with their needs and in qualitative and quantitative standards appropriate to their respective uses; the rational and integrated use of water resources, with a view to sustainable development; the protection of river basins against actions that could compromise their current and future use; control of the use of water resources; and prevention and defense against critical hydrological events of natural origin or resulting from the inappropriate use of natural resources.
The State Water Resources Management System (SEGRH–PA) has the following objectives: I - coordinate the integrated management of water resources; II - administratively arbitrate conflicts related to water resources; III - implement the State Water Resources Policy; IV - plan, regulate and control the use, preservation and recovery of water resources; and V - promote charging for the use of water resources.
