Law No. 6.666 establishing the Policy for Good Agricultural and Livestock Practices of the Distrito Federal (Brasília - Quality in the Countryside).

This Law establishes the Policy for Good Agricultural and Livestock Practices of the Distrito Federal (Brasília - Quality in the Countryside). Its principal objective is to promote the adoption of good agricultural practices in rural establishments in order to improve food safety, environmental protection, public health, and the quality of life of rural populations. The policy encourages sustainable agricultural production, the production and consumption of safe food, and the dissemination of sanitary, agricultural, and environmental measures that enhance the competitiveness and sustainability of the agricultural sector. It also seeks to strengthen rural development through income generation, social inclusion, and improved sanitary conditions in rural establishments. The law further aims to foster sustainable and environmentally responsible farming systems by encouraging producers to adopt practices that reduce environmental impacts, preserve ecosystems, and promote the sustainable use of natural resources. To achieve these goals, it establishes the permanent Good Agricultural Practices Programme, which provides guidance, monitoring, auditing, certification, and the issuance of quality seals to participating rural establishments. The policy also promotes incentives such as financing, technical support, preferential government procurement, and marketing opportunities for certified producers. Special priority is given to family farmers, agrarian reform beneficiaries, traditional peoples and communities, low-income rural families, and producers participating in institutional food acquisition programmes.
