Law No. 7.991 creating the Consumer Protection Institution of Alagoas (PROCON/AL).

This Law, consisting of 30 articles divided into nine Chapters and three Annexes, creates the Consumer Protection Institution of Alagoas (PROCON/AL). The purpose of this Law is to elaborate and implement the State Policy on Consumer Protection, in compliance with the National Consumer Policy Guidelines. PROCON/AL has the following objectives: receive, analyze, evaluate, determine, forward and monitor the progress of inquiries, complaints and suggestions from consumers or entities representing them; provide public service of care, support, permanent guidance and consumer protection; disclose the consumer rights by the different media and by their own publications and maintain a record of substantiated complaints against suppliers of products and services, as referred to in art. 44 of Federal Law No. 8.078 of 11 September 1990 (Code of Consumer Protection - CDC); promote measures to protect the collective and homogeneous individual interests of consumers; represent competent authorities for infringements of individual or collective interests of consumers; encourage the establishment and development of non-profit and municipal consumer civil protection bodies; develop educational programmes, studies and research in the area of ​​consumer protection, informing, raising awareness and motivating the consumers, through different means of communication; etc. In addition, it establishes the State Fund for Consumer Protection, whose resources will be used exclusively to provide financial support to the State System of Consumer Protection, managed by PROCON/AL.
