Abstract
This Order, consisting of 12 articles and 1 Annex, regulates the harvest of tree leaves (branches) and fruits of the Butia catarinensis (butiá-da-praia) within the State of Rio Grande do Sul. The harvest and management of products/byproducts of the Butia catarinensis can only be performed in a sustainable way, according to established procedures prior authorization, control and monitoring or in accordance with prevailing laws of the Department of Forests and Protected Areas (DEFAP) and the State Secretariat of Environment (SEMA). Non-timber products and forest byproducts of the catarinensis Butia can only be performed in specific areas at an advanced stage of regeneration, as defined by CONAMA Resolution No. 261/1999 (SC) and CONAMA 441/2011 (RS). The DEFAP should monitor the impact of the harvest and management of leaves and fruits in the remaining Butia forests, and may establish partnerships with scientific and technical institutions with expertise in biodiversity conservation.
