Abstract
The Act consists of 31 sections divided into 4 Parts: Preliminary (I); Duties and powers of the Water Authority (II); Supply of water by Water Authority (III); Offences and supplementary (IV).
“Waterworks” is defined in section 2. The Minister shall by Notice in the Gazette appoint a Waterworks Authority for every waterworks area declared under section 3 of this Act. Waterworks areas shall be established where an undertaking for public water supply exists or where the Minister considers that such undertaking should be established. Powers and duties Water Authorities for purposes of realizing waterworks for the supply of water are defined in sections 5,6,12,13,14,15 and 16. Powers include purchase, taking over and expropriation of waterworks. The Water Authority shall supply water to any premises within a Waterworks area pursuant to section 17. Any persons who damages waterworks, abstracts or diverts water from a waterworks or pollutes water of a waterworks shall commit an offence (sect. 21). Various other restrictions regarding the use of water in a waterworks area are prescribed.
