Decree No. 22 of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food validating Veterinary and Sanitary Regulation on prevention, diagnosis and elimination of Gasterophilus infestation of horses.

This Veterinary and Sanitary Regulation on prevention, diagnosis and elimination of Gasterophilus infestation of horses sets forth mandatory requirements for legal entities and natural persons, including individual entrepreneurs, for the safety of works and services related to the keeping, growing, breeding, transportation and trade, aimed at the prevention, diagnosis and elimination of Gasterophilus infestation of horses. In order to prevent Gasterophilus infestation of horses shall be prohibited: (a) rearrangement of horses within the organization without the permission of a specialist in veterinary field of this organization; and (b) pasture of recently arrived horses without previous treatment with drugs that destroy the body of larvae of gadflies; recently arrived horses shall be posted under quarantine and treated with drugs that destroy the body of larvae of gadflies, regardless of the season. It is recommended on days of mass summer passage of gadflies, horses should be kept indoors, sheds or under canopies, grazing horses in the early morning and evening hours and at night, and also in windy weather during the day. For the preventive treatment of horses against Gasterophilus apply preparations effective for Gasterophilus of horses, according to the instructions for their application.
