Resolution No. 14 of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food validating Veterinary and sanitary rules for the prevention, diagnosis and elimination of echinococcosis in animals.

These Veterinary and Sanitary Rules establish mandatory requirements for compliance by legal entities and individuals, including individual entrepreneurs, regarding the safety of work and services related to the maintenance, raising, breeding, movement, slaughter of animals, production, disposal, destruction of animal products aimed at the prevention, diagnosis and elimination of echinococcosis in animals. For successful prevention of echinococcosis, it is necessary to break the life cycle of the pathogen. For this purpose, preventive measures should cover both definitive and intermediate hosts. For the purpose of preventing echinococcosis in organizations: (a) service dogs (service, guard, shepherd) in use are taken onto the balance sheet of these organizations; (b) a veterinary animal certificate with detailed records of veterinary treatments is issued for each dog; and (c) dogs are not brought into the organization or moved around the territory of the organization without the permission of a veterinary specialist. Diagnosis of echinococcosis in definitive hosts is carried out in a comprehensive manner taking into account clinical signs and laboratory methods of examination (testing) of feces. Laboratory studies (testing) include: (a) detection of taeniid eggs in feces by flotation methods; and (b) detection of mature proglottids in feces by the elutriation method. When establishing the diagnosis of echinococcosis, the following is prohibited: (a) removal of farm animals susceptible to echinococcosis from an unfavorable territory or facility, with the exception of removal for slaughter; and (b) sale of animals to the population for growing and fattening.
