Abstract
This Act lays down provisions on the cessation of the functions of the Belize Electricity Board and vesting of functions in the Public Utilities Commission; dissolution of the Belize Electricity Board; general conditions of licensing for supply and the duties of the licensees; powers of license holders; duties of an electrical inspector; supply and safety regulations; and offences and penalties. The functions assigned or transferred tothe Commission under this Act are, as follows (i) generate, distribute, supply and sell energy for public and private purposes; and (ii) promote and encourage the effective and efficient development and administration of electricity supply, having regard to the development, well-being and security of the country. Second Schedule sets out rules relating to the preservation of amenity and fisheries by the licence holder authorized to generate or supply electricity.
