Abstract
This Act regulates the allotment of brands of any form or combination of characters to be applied to any part of the body of any stock (sect. 2). According to section 5, the Minister responsible for agriculture, food and rural development shall appoint a person to be the Recorder of Brands and establish the terms and conditions of service, including remuneration and expenses. An application for the allotment or purchase of the exclusive right to use a brand is to be made to the Recorder and shall be accompanied with the prescribed fee (sect. 8). Brands can be transferred (sect. 15) but the transfer is not effective until it is recorded by the Recorder. The Minister may publish a complete list of the brands recorded under the Act (sect. 12). The Act also contains provisions on offences and penalties (sect. 16). The Act consist of 26 sections.
