Abstract
The present Regulation enforces the Food Safety and Quality Act, 2001 (S.O. 2001, c. 20). In particular, the Regulation lays down provisions relating to federal grade standards, conditions of grading and grade marking requirements for lamb and mutton, poultry, veal and beef. Operators are now required to grade veal in all cases where calves are bought on a carcass weight basis; engage the services of a grader to grade veal carcasses; provide a grading certificate to the producer in specified circumstances; be responsible for the accuracy of scales (for beef and veal). The text – consisting of 14 sections – deals, inter alia, with the following aspects: accuracy of scales (for beef and veal), mandatory veal grading and exemptions, requirement to register under the Beef Cattle Marketing Act; plant operators now responsible for accuracy of scales.
