Abstract
The purpose of this Act is to ensure: a) the quality and safety of food, agricultural or aquatic commodities and agricultural inputs; b) the management of food safety risks; and c) the control and regulation of regulatable activities. The Act contains at the outset a definition clause relating to various terms employed therein such as, for example, “agricultural or aquatic commodity”, “agricultural input”, “certificate”, “conveyance”, “deadstock”, “fish”, “food”, “food safety risk” etc. The Lieutenant Governor in Council may make regulations for the purposes of this Act, namely: a) establishing standards with respect to food, agricultural or aquatic commodities or agricultural inputs; b) establishing standards with respect to any regulatable activity. The text consists of 55 sections divided into 6 Parts as follows: Purposes, definitions and administration (I); Licensing (II); Quality and safety standards (III); Inspections and orders (IV); Enforcement (V); General (VI).
