Abstract
The Regulation sets out rules around membership eligibility, registration, ethics, continuing competency and practice standards for ABVMA members.
In particular Part 3 on Ethics and Advertising establishes duties for registered veterinarian, registered veterinary technologist, permit holder, student and other member of the Association (e.g. should be dedicated to the benefit of society, the conservation of animal resources and the relief of the suffering of animals; shall be candid and honest when advising clients; should not divulge information unless it is information respecting inhumane or negligent treatment of an animal, in which case the registered veterinarian, registered veterinary technologist, permit holder or student may report the information to a peace officer as defined in the Animal Protection Act; should be merciful and humane, preventing needless suffering among animals, among others) and also contains provisions on continuing education program for registered members and specialists.
Part 4, also relevant, establishes that the Council, on the advice of the Practice Inspection and Practice Standards Committee, can establish categories and standards for facilities, equipment, personnel, and operational procedures for each of the service categories. Furthermore, the Practice Inspection and Practice Standards Committee may inspect a veterinary practice entity owned or operated by a registered veterinarian or permit holder that employs a registered veterinarian.
