Abstract
This ordinance aims to prevent the placement of illegally harvested or traded timber and wood products on the market. It requires initial operators to implement a due diligence system, which includes gathering detailed information on the wood products (e.g., species, origin, and supplier), conducting a risk assessment to evaluate the likelihood of illegal harvesting or trade, and applying risk mitigation measures if necessary. If the risk remains significant, the timber cannot be marketed. Documentation of these processes must be retained for five years to ensure compliance and traceability. The text further provides for inspection bodies, data processing, and enforcement.
