Measures for the Administration of New Resource Food.

Abstract
These Measures provide for the supervision and management of new resource food in order to protect the health of consumers.
New resource food shall include: animals, plants and microorganisms, and food raw materials separated from animals, plants and microorganisms of which there are no food habits in China; new varieties of microorganisms utilized during the food processing; and food raw materials leading to changes of original ingredients or structure as a result of adoption of a new process in production. The sale, use or import of new resource food shall be reported to the Ministry of Health for examination and approval. The ministry shall issue operating rules, technical specifications and standards for the assessment of new resource food. The text further contains provisions on the administration of enterprises engaged in the production of new resource food, and on hygiene supervision of the production sites.

These Measures enter into force on 1 December 2007.
Notes
The Measures for the Administration of New Resource Food Hygiene of 28 July 1990 and the Measures for the Administration of Genetically Modified Food Hygiene 8 April 2002 shall be repealed.
