Decree-Law No. 36/2018 approving the Statute of the National Institute of Agricultural Research and Development (INIDA).

This Decree-Law approves the Statute of the National Institute of Agricultural Research and Development (INIDA). This Statute, consisting of 28 articles divided into four Chapters, establishes composition, duties and responsibilities of the INIDA entitled to perform the following activities: a) research, experimentation and development in the field of agricultural sciences and technologies and natural resources; b) production of scientific knowledge to strengthen the competitiveness of agriculture and production systems for rural development; c) dissemination of available scientific and technological information in the agricultural, forestry, livestock and environmental sectors; d) training and transfer of technologies in the areas of its competence; e) food security and sustainable use of natural resources, contributing to the enhancement of agricultural science and technology at national level, especially through the dissemination of scientific and technological culture among farmers, producers and decision-makers; f) contribute to increased production and income of farmers and producers through applied research in the agricultural sector.
In carrying out its duties, INIDA acts within the framework of the policies defined by the Government, namely: a) prepare, propose and update the Strategic Plan of the National Agricultural Research System (NARS); b) coordinate and guarantee the operation of the NARS, aiming at the cooperation among its members; c) support, in the advisory and technical aspects, the activities of experimentation and demonstration at regional level; d) promote cooperation with similar national and international institutions in the areas of research, training and development; e) coordinate and articulate their actions with other public or private national bodies with competence in the areas of research, training and agrarian development or in related areas; f) provide, under contract, technical assistance to all private or public entities interested in agricultural development; g) provide qualified advice to the member of the Government responsible for the Agrarian area.
