Decree-Law No. 8/2022 establishing conservation and protection measures for species of flora and fauna subject to special protection.

This Decree-Law, consisting of 46 articles divided into five Chapters and two Annexes, containing several tables, establishes measures for the conservation and protection of species of flora and fauna that must be subject to special protection, as components of biodiversity and Cape Verdean natural heritage. It applies to: a) All plant species listed in Annex I; b) All animal species listed in Annex II; c) All species endemic to Cape Verde; d) Species of recognized scientific, medicinal and forage interest and considered genetic resources of great socio-economic interest for the country; e) All species listed in Appendix I of the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species belonging to wild fauna (CMS) in any area under Cape Verde's jurisdiction, etc. In addition, it regulates the criteria for plant and animal species classification, their protection and monitoring duties required to public authorities. This Decree-Law regulates the licensing requirements for export, and requires the completion of specific CITES authorization for the biological material to be exported included in the Appendices of the CITES.
