Law No. 11/X/2022 creating the Special Economic Zone of Maio island (ZEEIM) and establishing the bases of the legal regime for its creation, organization, development and functioning, as well as the tax regime.

This Law creates the Special Economic Zone of Maio island (ZEEIM) and establishes the bases of the legal regime for its creation, organization, development and functioning, as well as the tax regime. ZEEIM's objective is to promote the economic development of the Republic of Cape Verde, through the attraction of investment, the creation of qualified employment, the promotion of professional training, the creation of wealth, economic and social development and the qualitative and quantitative increase in national housing capacity. The ZEEIM is a delimited geographical area, which comprises the ZDTIs of the South of Vila do Maio, Ribeira Dom João and Pau Seco, according to the location plan, included in Annex I to this law, as well as as all the areas in which the productive structures associated with them are built.
In addition, ZEEIM's objectives are: a) Promoting the development of the Island of Maio oriented towards the best use of its potential in the field of tourism and leisure activities, as well as the development of an international business platform benefiting from the centrality that results from the connection to Africa, the Southern and Northern Atlantic areas and Europe; b) Promoting economic development by ensuring sustainable and adequate growth of its environmental resources; c) The attraction of investment that allows the creation of employment, the improvement of living conditions and the increase in the income of its inhabitants; d) Support for the development and implementation of international projects that allow the fulfillment of their objectives and cooperation with other islands, whenever possible.
